When it comes to art I have a great interest in texture and color with a contemporary twist.  Things that enhance our quality of life are, “Art, wine, good food and friends to share it all with. It is important to enjoy life and to realise the brevity of our existence and to live with appreciation as everything around us can be viewed as Art, it all comes down to our outlook ! ”

If there was only one piece of art that I could have, given the choice of course, it would be Leonardo Da Vinci’s, “Mona Lisa”.  When I was ten years old my parents asked me what I wanted as a gift at the end of the year.  I very earnestly told them I wanted a copy of the Mona Lisa. I knew it was not possible to have the real one, but a print would be adequate.  Well at the end of that year there was this really big narrow box in the living room and it was heavy, I was very excited. The excitement soon turned to great disappointment when I opened the box to find a sparkling new self-assemble bicycle. My parents did not take me seriously! I can laugh about it now. Little did I know at that time that the Mona Lisa is actually a much smaller work of art, about 77cm X 53cm, and yes one of the highlights of my life was getting to see it at Musée du Louvre in Paris, it was the perfect day as she was not being suffocated with the usual onslaught of too many tourists and I actually got to enjoy meeting her.

The first piece of art that I ever purchased was a moonlight scene done on a small ceramic plate. It was from Russia, artist unknown. I was 16 years old when I purchased it. I gave it away to dear friends in Toronto many years later. I believe in being generous and also in being able to let go when the time is right, as we are just custodians, we don’t own anything actually…….

A lot of my friends who visit my home say that I have unusual taste in art, ( how polite ), yet each piece that I have had the privilege of acquiring connected with me in a clear way,  it was love at first sight.

Art adds so much enjoyment to my life.  I am so fortunate to be surrounded by such creativity and beauty at home and at work.  This is expressed well in my favourite quote by Albert Einstein, “The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious – the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art.”
